Despite the good news from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) last Thursday that individuals who allegedly dumped fridges on an A52 lay-by close to Wheatcroft Island – and were suspected of being responsible for dozens of other fly-tips around Ruddington this year – had had their vehicle seized (pictured below), a similar incident has now happened again just a few hundred yards away!
Following an alert this morning (December 20th) from resident Elissa Hawksworth that yet more fridges had been dumped inside the entrance to a farmers’ field along Flawforth Lane, RBC’s clean-up contractors ‘Streetwise‘ confirmed to RUDDINGTON.info: “We have received a report of the fly-tipping which had taken place overnight. The fly-tip is in a farmers field meaning it’s on private land and therefore we will not remove as part of our contract with Rushcliffe Borough Council. We can however remove the fly tip at a cost to the landowner.”
Consequently, tonight the dumped white goods are still there, blighting the landscape on the approach to Ruddington…
RBC’s Executive Manager for Neighbourhoods Dave Banks confirmed: “We have been alerted to an incident of fly-tipping on private land off Flawforth Lane in Ruddington on December 19th. We will work with the landowner and advise of the action required to clear the site. As our recent prosecutions and action have shown, we continue to have a zero tolerance policy on fly-tippers and will always consider prosecution on public land when any evidence is found on those who commit these crimes.”
We asked RBC if either more than one group of individuals could be responsible for these fly-tipping offences or whether only the van, rather than the perpetrators, were identified last time? If so, is it possible the same criminals have now simply acquired a new vehicle?
They responded: “We can’t speculate as to who is responsible for the incident on Flawforth Lane but we will continue to work with and advise the landowner of any steps to take to try and identify any individuals connected with this. For the vehicle seizure last week, the matter is still under investigation but with any fly-tipping incident we consider the evidence in each case in line with its enforcement policy. We have been in contact with an individual who claims ownership of the vehicle and will be inviting any person of interest for an interview before considering what action to take.”
Meantime, anyone who has information on those committing any fly-tipping offence is asked to contact RBC via social media, over the ‘phone on 0115 981 99 11 or by emailing customerservices@rushcliffe.gov.uk.
